Justice Keith R. Blackwell was appointed to the Supreme Court of Georgia in July 2012 by Governor Deal. He previously served as a judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia, since Nov 2010.

After law school, Justice Blackwell served as a law clerk to Judge J.L. Edmondson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and then began his career with Alston & Bird LLP. In 2003, he served as an assistant district attorney in Cobb County, where he represented Georgia in several hundred felony prosecutions. In late 2005, he joined Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs LLP, and three years later was elected as a partner of the firm. Blackwell focused his practice on complex commercial litigation, including contract, real estate, insurance, business tort, and securities cases. He also represented clients in connection with criminal and regulatory investigations, and he counseled clients with respect to trade secrets, computer crimes, and data security. Justice Blackwell also served as a deputy special attorney general for the State of Georgia in constitutional litigation.

Justice Blackwell currently serves as the Supreme Court liaison to the State Bar of Georgia. He also serves as a liaison to the Office of Bar Admissions and Board of Bar Examiners, as the chair of the Commission on Interpreters, as a member of the Commission on Dispute Resolution, and as a liaison to the Strategic Planning Committee of the Judicial Council of Georgia. He is a member of the Cobb Bar Association, and is a master of the Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn of Court and the Columbus American Inn of Court. He also serves as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Atlanta Chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies.

Justice Blackwell graduated summa cum aude from UGA with both a degree in political scienceand the from the School of Law. He lives in Cobb County with his wife, Angela, and their three daughters.
