Ray Carter is Vice President and General Manager of WSB-TV, the ABC affiliated station in Atlanta. Before being named to the position at Channel 2, he held a corporate role, as Regional Vice President, overseeing five of the Cox Media Group television markets. Prior to that, he spent 16 years as the VP/General Manager of WPXI-TV, the Cox-owned station In Pittsburgh. Before becoming a general manager, he served as the executive in charge of several television news operations across the country.

Ray has been involved in the leadership of television stations since 1986. Prior to his move to management, he worked in several small-market T.V. newsrooms as a photographer, editor, writer, producer, reporter and anchor. He readily admits that his poor performance as a news anchor and his rapidly receding hairline sped up his move into management.

He is active in the leadership of the television industry. He currently serves on the Board of Governors for the ABC Network Affiliate Association, and is a former member of the NBC Television Affiliate Advisory Board. He is a board member of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, and before moving back to Georgia, served as the Television Chairman of the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.

Ray is also active in his community and church. He has served on the boards of the Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania, the Woodlands Foundation, the Pennsylvania Economy League, and the Pittsburgh chapter of the NAACP. He has also served as lay clergy for his church, with responsibility at one time for more than a dozen congregations.

Ray and his wife Cathy are originally from California, but are proud to call Georgia home. They have four grown children.   He enjoys travel and photography. Late at night and every chance he gets, he works on unfinished writing projects, including a novel and a screenplay.
