Georgia author Janisse Ray will tell us about a fascinating Southern ecosystem that built America, one she wrote about in her award-winning memoir, Ecology of a Cracker Childhood. Ray will not only detail the natural history of the yellow pine, but will talk about its economics as well. Ecology of a Cracker Childhood (published in 1999) was a New York Times Notable Book. The Times said of the book, "The forests of the South find their Rachel Carson.”

Ray has since published five more books. She has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, the Georgia Writer’s Association Lifetime Achievement Award, an American Book Award, among many others.

She has received two honorary doctorates, and in 2015 she was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame. She lives on a historic farm in Tattnall County, Georgia.

This will be an interview format by Laura McCarty!
