When Jonah McDonald announced that he was going to walk from Maine to his new home in Atlanta, his parents scratched their heads. “But think of the stories I’ll have to tell!” Jonah said. He proceeded to hike all 2,172 miles of the Appalachian Trail and hasn’t stopped moving or telling stories since.
As a professional storyteller, author, and park ranger, Jonah enchants audiences with tales from around the world, as well as stories of adventure, nature, and history. Jonah’s stories and infectious energy delight groups of all ages and sizes. Filled with enthusiasm and humor, Jonah’s stories make you feel like you are on an adventure.
Jonah has been selected to be a repeat performer at the Peach State Storytelling Festival and Tellabration! Atlanta. Jonah is an author and seasoned entertainer whose storytelling has been featured on Atlanta’s NPR affiliate station, WABE 90.1 FM. He now serves as the host of the show, "Living History," on AIB TV. He does all of this while serving as the DeKalb County naturalist at Mason Mill Park and writing guidebooks about Atlanta, including Hiking Atlanta’s Hidden Forests: Intown and Outand Secret Atlanta: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.
Jonah loves exploring his city via bicycle, canoe, or foot, and believes that there is a new story to learn and tell around every bend. When he’s not already on an adventure,Jonah loves finding a new one.
I am really looking forward to serving our club this year as your President. It is an honor and I am humbled by all those leaders who have come before me. Thanks in particular to Past President Sandy Welfare who navigated us through a very difficult time and for all those who served during her tenure in this crazy virtual world in which we are living. All of you will make the transition so much easier.
Have you missed your Kiwanis friends at our regular Tuesday meetings? If so, you can join them on our Zoom Virtual Meetings, each Tuesday at 11:45 am - Just bring your own sack lunch!
We have had great speakers during our Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Zoom meetings! If you couldn't participate, we have saved all of them to Dropbox, but the most recent ones are available through the live link of the speaker name listed below! Click more to see the list of the most recent speakers and send an email to KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to let us know which meetings you would like to have. Remember, you can always check out past speakers by viewing the past bulletins archived on our web site.
Are you having trouble receiving the KCA Bulletins and other email communications? It appears that computer systems/servers who use Symantec are having trouble getting communications from our ClubRunner system delivered to their inboxes. While we work on this issue with ClubRunner, I have an email list serve set up through Outlook to send the bulletins out each week to those who need it. And if you are having trouble receiving your quarterly bills, I can send them to you through QuickBooks. Just email me at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com and I will add you to the list!
The club is creating a contact list of Kiwanis members directly on our Zoom account to make it easier to share speaker files, distribute any data they have sent, etc. Only members that have a Zoom account can be on this contact list. If you access the Zoom meetings through a direct link, but have not downloaded the Zoom app, then I cannot add you at this time.
Welcome to Jennifer Pearson, our newest member and Social Media Guru! Jennifer, along with our Public Relations team chaired by Thornton Kennedy wants you to connect, friend and like the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta on all of our social media!
