Geology of Stone Mountain and Metro Atlanta
Pamela J. W. Gore, Professor of Geology at Georgia State University, Perimeter College, has taught Geology in Georgia for more than 30 years.  Originally from the Washington, DC area, she attended the University of Maryland for her undergraduate degree in Geology. She then attended graduate school at the George Washington University, with a year at Johns Hopkins University. She received her MS and PhD degrees in Geology from George Washington University in Washington, DC, where her dissertation was on the sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleontology of Triassic rift basins. She has also done graduate research on the Piedmont in Maryland.  
After coming to Atlanta, she first taught at Emory University, and then DeKalb College, and Georgia Perimeter College. She wanted to learn about the geology of Georgia, and not finding any books on the subject, made it her mission to write one. In addition to the Roadside Geology of Georgia book, published by Mountain Press in 2013, she is also the author of theHistorical Geology Lab Manual published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 2014.
 Dr. Gore is a licensed Professional Geologist, and has served as President of the Georgia Geological Society, and as President and Secretary-Treasurer of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, Southeastern Section for more than 15 years.  She has received the NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) Teaching Excellence Award twice (in 1992 and 2004), and received theRegents Teaching Excellence Award, from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia in 1998. She was recognized for her service learning work with students on the United StatesPresident’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in 2013.
