John Buckovich is the Vice President for SCAD Atlanta and University Operations for the Savannah College of Art and Design.
John is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the university’s Atlanta location. He manages the daily operations which includes overseeing operational departments, guiding change and growth, enhancing admission, academic quality, collaborative sponsored projects, and alumni placement. In addition, he has oversight of security and transportation operations at SCAD’s locations in Savannah, Atlanta, and Lacoste, France.
Prior to coming to SCAD in 2013, John lived in Richmond, Virginia and held a variety of positions with the Richmond Police Department during his 26 year career. He served as the Chief of Staff, Operations Major and Assistant Chief.
After retiring from the Richmond Police Department he was appointed by Governor Robert McDonnell to serve as the Deputy Secretary of Public Safety for Virginia. As the Deputy Secretary of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Virginia he developed and implemented community based public safety initiatives including the Virginia Gang Intervention and Prevention Strategy. In addition, he was responsible for the daily oversight of eleven state agencies and a number of Boards that make up the Public Safety Secretariat.
He is a graduate of the University of Richmond. He attended the 201st Session of the FBI National Academy.
