Joel Cowan graduated from Georgia Tech and lives in Peachtree City, GA, since 1959. 

He is the founder of Peachtree City serving as its first Mayor beginning in 1959.  He was also the chief executive of its development company through 1976. In addition, he was the developer of other major projects including Phipps Plaza, Snapfinger Woods and Palmetto Dunes.

For the last 20 years his primary interests have been international. This involves both for profit and non-profit work in the emerging economies of Central Asia, Eastern Europe, and China. These activities focus on trade, technology transfer, and merchant banking. Education and leadership training are the focus of his non-profit activities.

Cowan is currently a member of the Board of Councilors of The Carter Center, Advisory Board of the George H.W. Bush China Foundation and a former director of the EastWest Institute (New York). He is a trustee emeritus of the Georgia Tech Foundation and The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta.  He was a director of numerous companies including World Air Holdings, Inc., Continental Airlines and Interstate General Company. He was an Adjunct Professor in the MBA program at Georgia Tech specializing on issues of the emerging world.  and former Chairman of the Community Foundation of Fayette County. He is Former Chairman of the Board of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.

Emory Morsberger currently serves as President for Tucker Summit CID and Executive Director for Gateway85 CID – one of the region’s largest CIDs covering 14-square miles and directs all activities for these two metro Atlanta Community Improvement Districts.

He graduated from Emory College and received an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He created and grew a data security company in the 80’s and served in the Georgia State Legislature in the early 90’s, representing Gwinnett County.  He has served on numerous local, state, and federal boards and authorities.

Emory has been involved in numerous real estate projects including the creation of Ponce City Market and the redevelopment of Lawrenceville. He created five of the thirty CIDs in Metro Atlanta and has been involved in the formation or expansion of six others. On November 15, Emory will be honored with the CID Professional Excellence Award from the Council for Quality Growth.

In June, following a trip to Ukraine to deliver much-needed medical supplies to hospitals near the front lines of the war, Emory has been focused on raising funds to purchase and ship more critical medical supplies, focusing on surgical equipment and newborn incubators that can function in areas with unreliable power. He launched www.helpingukraine.us to help in the effort.

Emory and wife, Janet, have seven daughters and reside in Lilburn.  One of his goals is to visit every country in the world—Turkey was his 104th country.
