Gil Rogers is the director of the Southern Environmental Law Center’s Georgia office, where he oversees a team of 30 employees, including 15 lawyers.  The Southern Environmental Law Center was founded in 1986 to protect the South’s natural resources and promote healthy communities in Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia.  SELC employs the full spectrum of legal tools to work with partners at the local, state and federal levels to advance environmental protections in the South and across the country.

Gil grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Princeton University, where he studied biology and environmental science.  After graduating from Harvard Law School, Gil joined SELC’s Georgia office in 2002.  Before becoming the office’s director, his primary focus was on water pollution and water management, including work on the Tri-State Water Wars between Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.  Gil has led SELC’s clean water program and has been recognized as Water Conservationist of the Year by the Georgia Wildlife Federation and River Hero by the Alabama Rivers Alliance.  He has also served as a Wasserstein Fellow at Harvard Law School.
