Sam Friedman was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and received his BA from Brown University and MBA from Georgia State.  For his military career, he served in the Air National Gard and the Air Force Reserves.  He is the Founder and owner of AFCO Realty since 1971 and also served as a director for Avalon in the 80’s.

Professionally, he received the Alvin B Cates Award in 1993 for the Most Outstanding Real Estate Transaction by the Atlanta Board of Realtors as well as the 1997 Phoenix Award.  He has earned the professional designations awarded by the National Association of Realtors – CCIM, CPM, CRE, SIOR.

In the community, Friedman served as a Director and Founding Chairman of the Path Foundation from 1991 – 2016, as well as a director with the USO of Georgia and the National Infantry Museum.  He is on the advisory committee of the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.  A Kiwanis Club of Atlanta member for 35 years, Sam serves as a trustee and Chairman for its Foundation.  He is an Angel Flight Volunteer and past board member and Board Chairman for the Atlanta Union Mission, Past Commissioner and Chairman of the Atlanta Housing Authority (appointed by Mayor Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young), Board member and past Chairman for Buckhead Coalition and a Commissioner – Georgia World War I Centennial Commission, appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal.
