Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jacquel inherited an ethic of community service from her grandmother, an active community member in the city’s Third Ward. She is a public health professional with more than twenty years of experience. She has created and implemented public health initiatives that centered communities and healing. 
 
She is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and earned a Master of Public Health degree at New York University. Deeply concerned with the well-being of communities like the one she grew up in, Jacquel Clemons is an extraordinary advocate for social justice and a leader in the movement to transform and renew our urban communities.

Jacquel currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia where she is working to birth a holistic ecosystem for violence prevention that is rooted in healing and power. She formerly served as the inaugural Director of the City of Atlanta Office of Violence Reduction. She now leads a hospital based violence intervention program (IVYY Project at Grady Health System) that is anchoring regional efforts to reduce gun violence.
