Darin Schierbaum was appointed to be the 26th Chief of the Atlanta Police Department by Mayor Andre Dickens in October 2022.

A native of southern Illinois, Chief Schierbaum joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2002 after ten years with the Johnson County Illinois Sheriff’s Department. Upon graduating as class valedictorian of Academy Class 180 he was assigned to Zone 5 where he held several assignments including Beat Officer in the Midtown neighborhood, plainclothes detail officer, and a member of the HOPE/Crises Intervention Team. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2007 and served in Zone 6 as a sector Sergeant on the Evening Watch. As a Sergeant, he would later supervise the Zone 5 Burglary/Larceny Unit which successfully lowered the number of burglaries occurring within the downtown and midtown areas.

H received numerous promotions to Lieutenant, Captain, Major and Section Commander, serving in numerous units and divisions.  In March of 2020, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to the Strategy and Special Projects Division. Housed in this Division is the Program Management Unit, Planning and Research/Accreditation Unit, Retired Reserves Unit, Tactical Crime Analysis Unit, Atlanta Police Leadership Unit, Open Records Unit, Overtime/Use of Force Tracking, and the Atlanta Police Historical Society.

He was advanced to Assistant Chief in 2022, and in June 2022, Mayor Dickens appointed him to serve as Interim Chief following the retirement of Chief Rodney Bryant.

Chief Schierbaum holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Herzing University and a master’s degree from Columbus State University in Public Safety Administration. He is a graduate of Atlanta Police Leadership Institute - Tier 5, Police Executive Research Forum - Senior Management Institute for Police (Session 76). He is a certified POST instructor for the State of Georgia as well as a certified Crises Intervention Team and Fair and Impartial Policing instructor. Chief Schierbaum is a resident of the Midtown community and enjoys spending his off time at bookstores and exploring historically significant sites in and around the city.

KCA Weekly Meeting Registration due on Thursdays at Noon
The deadline to submit your reservation to attend the weekly meeting is now Thursday at Noon.  The Loudermilk Center caterers need to order our food on Fridays for delivery early the next week.  So we don't have the ability to get additional food at the last minute.  If you don't have a reservation, you are welcome to attend the meeting, but must wait until after the meeting starts to see if there is food remaining.  Thanks for your help with this.
KCA Lunch Cancellation Policy
The KCA Weekly Luncheon meetings are the best place to come, hear our fabulous speakers, enjoy fellowship and a fabulous lunch.  Starting in November, our food service will again be provided by the Loudermilk Center catering department, so no more bringing in bags of meals, plates, etc.!  However, with this change we must have a firm reservation count by the Friday noon prior to the meeting.  So last minute add ons will be more difficult.  This also means that when you do make a reservation and do not attend, we have left over food that we must pay for.
Cancellation Policy: The board of directors approved a policy to begin charging all members that have a reservation, but do not attend, the cost of their meal.  Please be sure that you both make your reservation to attend, or cancel one that you may have, by Noon on the Friday prior to the luncheon!  If you currently are on the auto registration list, but are not attending regularly, please email me so that I can remove your name and you can sign up for the meetings you can attend.  And if you are attending regularly, consider adding your name to the auto registration list so that you don't have to worry about it!
Thanks for your attention to this!
Automatic In Person Attendance Registration Available!
Are you attending the KCA weekly meetings in person all the time and want to skip the registration process?  Just email Karen at and have your name added to the automatic attendance list.  Easy Peasy.  All we ask is that you let us know when you ARE NOT going to be there so we don't have extra food ordered.  Add your name to the list today and we will see you on Tuesday, Jan 4th!
