David Jernigan currently serves as the President & CEO for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta where he oversees 25 clubs across ten counties, with the goal of serving 10,000 kids and teens each year.  Prior to his current role, he served for six years as the Deputy Superintendent for Atlanta Public Schools, where he assisted the Superintendent in realizing a bold vision of transformation for a district of 52,000 students, resulting in graduation rate improvement from 59% to 80% and seamless college enrollment growth from 51% to 62% over five years.

Much of David’s career was with KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, where he had the opportunity to serve as the Founding Principal for one of the first KIPP schools in Atlanta, KIPP WAYS (West Atlanta Young Scholars) Academy. Under his leadership, KIPP WAYS Academy was consistently one of Atlanta’s highest performing middle schools, and in 2008 it was named the #1 “No Excuses School” in Georgia by the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.  David went on to launch the KIPP Metro Atlanta region in 2008 when he became the Founding Executive Director for KIPP Metro Atlanta and led the organization to grow from two to eight schools over six years.

David is a Morehead Scholar and graduate of the University of North Carolina Kenan Flagler Business School and is the recipient of the Business School’s 2003 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. In 2011, David was also honored with the University’s Distinguished Young Alumnus Award. He received his teaching certification through Georgia State University and his Masters in Educational Administration from National Louis University in Chicago.  David also completed executive training at the Harvard Business School in 2012.

David was honored with one of ten Outstanding Atlanta awards in 2007.  He is also the recipient of the Dr. Joseph Draper Service Award, the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s “40 Under 40,” the Georgia Charter Leader of the Year and one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine.

KCA Weekly Meeting Registration due on Thursdays at Noon
The deadline to submit your reservation to attend the weekly meeting is now Thursday at Noon.  The Loudermilk Center caterers need to order our food on Fridays for delivery early the next week.  So we don't have the ability to get additional food at the last minute.  If you don't have a reservation, you are welcome to attend the meeting, but must wait until after the meeting starts to see if there is food remaining.  Thanks for your help with this.
Automatic In Person Attendance Registration Available!
Are you attending the KCA weekly meetings in person all the time and want to skip the registration process?  Just email Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com and have your name added to the automatic attendance list.  Easy Peasy.  All we ask is that you let us know when you ARE NOT going to be there so we don't have extra food ordered.  Add your name to the list today and we will see you on Tuesday, Jan 4th!
