Mentor Opportunity with Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

BGCMA  is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to the nominees for the Youth of the Year.

Mentors provide support and counseling for a Youth of the Year candidate at the club level.  Candidates need assistance with public speaking, interview skills and speech writing.  Mentors will meet in large groups (Group Sessions) as well as one-on-one settings with their candidates (Mentor Session).  We are invited to apply for this unique experience to directly work with these outstanding candidates.

This is an 8 week commitment beginning August 15th.  You have two meetings (one group, one one-on-one) per week.  There will be an orientation on August 8th.

If you have interest in applying or want more information, please contact Michael Butkus at 404-713-7788 or via email at mbutkus@mindsring.com

All mentors must have a current background check on file.  Please contact Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to make sure yours is up to date.

Parking Changes for the Loudermilk Parking Garage
United Way is now contracted with LAZ Parking to provide the parking services for the Loudermilk Center parking garage.  And with this comes changes to our parking system, some now and some in the future.  Please be sure to read all information thoroughly to avoid having your car towed.
Beginning immediately, parking will cost $12 just for a vehicle to enter the garage and immediately leave it.  There is no complimentary time.  So be sure you obtain a parking validation sticker when you arrive to a club meeting to ensure that you aren't charge the higher rate.

Reserved Parking Places are only available for Kiwanis Club members who display the Kiwanis decal on their car at all times, even after the club meeting begins.  You must have this decal placed inside your back window on the passenger side. If you have a convertible, you can place it on the front window on the drivers side.  It is a static cling decal and easy to adhere.  Please get one from Karen at the luncheon meeting.  If you do not have a decal on your car, you may park in any unmarked parking space located on floors 4 through 6 of the garage.

Guests attending the luncheon meetings will need to park in unmarked parking places, and not the reserved spots.

Starting Immediately: If you do not have a decal on your car and you park in a reserved space, you will be booted and you must pay to remove the boot.  The 2nd and subsequent offenses may result in your car being towed.

Parking Cards: If you have a parking card, you will need to complete a form identifying your vehicle and license plate, and return to Karen ASAP.  There is a place on the form for a second vehicle in case you drive an alternate car at times.  This form will help LAZ identify you as a Kiwanis card parker in case there is ever any trouble with your card working and your ability to enter/exit the garage.  A Parking Form may be downloaded HERE.

Also, parking cards are being reprogrammed and will only work on Tuesdays from 9:30 am - 4 pm.  If you have a parking card and have been using it to access the garage on other days, it will no longer work.

Parking Cost Increase:  Beginning October 1, Parking will increase for both those with parking cards and those that do daily tickets.  Beginning October 1st, Parking Cards will cost $38 per quarter and parking tickets will be $4 per luncheon visit and only valid on Tuesday.

Thank you for your attention to this and ensure that your car does not get towed by placing a decal on your car immediately, or parking in the unreserved places.

Thank you.

We Need YOU to be a part of the "Lunch Bunch"!
Our club is looking for about 6 individuals who are willing to become part of the "Lunch Bunch" team!  Team members will help the lunch meetings operate smoothly by working the a/v board and sounds system in the back, ensuring that any a/v the speakers use are properly set up, and working the microphones during the Q&A sessions!

While no technical experience is necessary, volunteers should feel comfortable and confident adjusting sound levels and setting up the computer for power point and video presentations.  And the benefit is a dedicated comfy seat at the a/v table during lunch!  wink

Please contact Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to sign up!
