City of Atlanta
City of Atlanta

A daughter of Atlanta and the city's 60th mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms is committed to realizing her vision of One Atlanta – an affordable, resilient and equitable Atlanta – which stands as a model city for both commerce and compassion.

A lifelong public servant, Mayor Bottoms is the only Mayor in Atlanta’s history to have served in all three branches of government, serving as a judge and City Councilmember before being sworn in as Mayor.

Leading with a progressive agenda focused on equity and affordable housing, Mayor Bottoms serves as Chair of the Community Development and Housing Committee for the United States Conference of Mayors.

Among Mayor Bottoms’ notable accomplishments to date include the establishment of the City’s first fully-staffed Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the appointments of a LGBTQ Affairs Coordinator and a Human Trafficking Fellow, the citywide elimination of cash bail bond, the closure of the Atlanta City Detention Center to ICE detainees, and the rollout of the most far-reaching financial transparency platform in the City’s history – Atlanta’s Open Checkbook.

Under Mayor Bottoms’ leadership, the City of Atlanta led the historically successful staging of Super Bowl LIII, which included unprecedented community benefits – a $2.4 million renovation of John F. Kennedy Park on Atlanta’s Westside, more than 20,000 trees planted throughout the community and the seamless coordination of 40 federal, state and local public safety agencies.

A product of Atlanta Public Schools, Mayor Bottoms graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and received her undergraduate degree from Florida A&M University. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law.

An active member of the community, Mayor Bottoms is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Jack and Jill of America, The Links, Incorporated, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She has also served on the board of Families First and shares her personal story of adoption and advocates on behalf of adoption and foster care.

Mayor Bottoms is the daughter of Sylvia Robinson and R&B icon Major Lance. She resides in historic Southwest Atlanta with her husband, Derek W. Bottoms, their four children- Lance, Langston, Lennox and Lincoln, and their family dog, Logan.

Get Involved with AMIS Welcome Reception and Friendship Program

AMIS (Atlanta Ministry with International Students) is the French word for “friends” and symbolizes our mission, which is to promote cultural understanding through friendship and hospitality with international students and scholars in the greater Atlanta area. Join us in welcoming these students to Atlanta, Georgia, and the US.  You can make a difference in the life of a future global leader while making a new friend!

AMIS’ 42st Annual International Students and Scholars Welcome Reception – Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Spelman College Sister’s Chapel, 2-4 pm.

Join us in welcoming new international students studying at schools around Atlanta and let them know about AMIS opportunities like the Amigo Friendship Program.  There will be a special musical performance by the Morehouse College Glee Club followed by a catered reception.

Amigo Friendship Program

AMIS’s Friendship Program matches an international student with an American volunteer in the local community for friendship and sharing of cultures.  Your support can help an international student in their adjustment to American life, culture and language, as well as introduce them to our city.  We ask you to meet at least once for a meal, event, or outing and continue your friendship over the school year as you have time and opportunity.  AMIS will provide support and group events for friendship partners.

Parking Changes for the Loudermilk Parking Garage
LAZ provides the parking services for the Loudermilk Center parking garage.

Parking Cost Increase:  Beginning October 1, Parking will increase for both those with parking cards and those that do daily tickets.  Parking Cards will cost $38 per quarter and parking tickets will be $4 per luncheon visit.
Normally, parking is $12 just for a vehicle to enter the garage and immediately leave it.  There is no complimentary time.  So be sure you obtain a parking validation sticker when you arrive to a club meeting to ensure that you aren't charge the higher rate.

Reserved Parking Places are only available for Kiwanis Club members who display the Kiwanis decal on their car at all times, even after the club meeting begins.  You must have this decal placed inside your back window on the passenger side. If you have a convertible, you can place it on the front window on the drivers side.  It is a static cling decal and easy to adhere.  Please get one from Karen at the luncheon meeting.  If you do not have a decal on your car, you may park in any unmarked parking space located on floors 4 through 6 of the garage.

Guests attending the luncheon meetings will need to park in unmarked parking places, and not the reserved spots.

Starting Immediately: If you do not have a decal on your car and you park in a reserved space, you will be booted and you must pay to remove the boot.  The 2nd and subsequent offenses may result in your car being towed.

Parking Cards: If you have a parking card, you will need to complete a form identifying your vehicle and license plate, and return to Karen ASAP.  There is a place on the form for a second vehicle in case you drive an alternate car at times.  This form will help LAZ identify you as a Kiwanis card parker in case there is ever any trouble with your card working and your ability to enter/exit the garage.  A Parking Form may be downloaded HERE.

Also, parking cards are being reprogrammed and will only work on Tuesdays from 9:30 am - 4 pm.  If you have a parking card and have been using it to access the garage on other days, it will no longer work.

Thank you for your attention to this and ensure that your car does not get towed by placing a decal on your car immediately, or parking in the unreserved places.

Thank you.

We Need YOU to be a part of the "Lunch Bunch"!
Our club is looking for about 6 individuals who are willing to become part of the "Lunch Bunch" team!  Team members will help the lunch meetings operate smoothly by working the a/v board and sounds system in the back, ensuring that any a/v the speakers use are properly set up, and working the microphones during the Q&A sessions!

While no technical experience is necessary, volunteers should feel comfortable and confident adjusting sound levels and setting up the computer for power point and video presentations.  And the benefit is a dedicated comfy seat at the a/v table during lunch!  wink

Please contact Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to sign up!
