KCA Centennial Minute - The club's 60th decade unfolds!
As the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta begins it's Centennial Celebration, the Centennial Committee has created a speaker series to highlight people and activities from the club's past 100 years!

This week's “Centennial Minute" will focus on the period from January 1, 1980, to May 1, 1988.

We are privileged to have two members as presenters who were present and participating in this segment of our history.  Dr. Marilu McCarty, Emeritus Professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech, and Mary Lou Austin, long-time President of the Georgia USO, were each among the first women invited to join our club.  They will share their feelings and impressions of this period with us.  They were two of the twenty-seven (27) ladies who first graced us with their membership.  The group of ladies initially invited to join also included a sitting federal district court judge, a sitting Judge from the Georgia Court of Appeals, Alana Shepherd, founder of The Shepherd Center, writer Celestine Sibley, Betty Siegel, who would become President of Kennesaw State University and a former Miss America (Anita Bryant).

We are delighted to have them share their perspectives with us.

If you missed the Centennial Minute covering the period in Atlanta Kiwanis history from May 1, 1968 to December 31, 1979, you can view the highlights from that period on our website!  You can read the script and see photos from just a quick fifty (50) years ago and bringing us into Atlanta’s modern era.  These were the days of the Atlanta Kiwanis Club presidencies of Harry Lamon, John McCarty, Virlyn B. Moore, Jr. and Dr. Monroe F. Swilley, Jr., among others.  Just go to our home page at and click on the Centennial Celebration tab!

We Need YOU to be a part of the "Lunch Bunch"!
Our club is looking for about 6 individuals who are willing to become part of the "Lunch Bunch" team!  Team members will help the lunch meetings operate smoothly by working the a/v board and sounds system in the back, ensuring that any a/v the speakers use are properly set up, and working the microphones during the Q&A sessions!
While no technical experience is necessary, volunteers should feel comfortable and confident adjusting sound levels and setting up the computer for power point and video presentations.  And the benefit is a dedicated comfy seat at the a/v table during lunch!  wink
Please contact Karen at to sign up!
Member Networking - Have a Spotlight Shine on You!
Do you want to let the members of our club know more about you and your business?  Do you want to network and cultivate more business contacts?  If you answered yes, then you need to sign up to do a "Member Spotlight" at one of our club meetings!
Spotlights are done every 2nd and 4th Tuesday luncheon meeting (and the occasional 5th) each month.  You have two minutes to showcase your business and tell the other members how you can benefit them!  To get on the schedule, just email Karen at
Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Car Decals
Don't get the BOOT!  Be sure your car has a Kiwanis Club of Atlanta car decal properly displayed on your vehicle.
The security company contracted by Lanier Parking will be booting all cars that are parked in the reserved parking places and that do not have a valid decal on their car identifying them as attending the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta luncheon.  So if you arrive prior to 11:45 am on Tuesday, please make sure you have a parking decal on your car.  You can get a decal from Karen at the luncheon meeting, and then place it on the right back window (passenger side) from inside your car.  They are static cling, so easy to put on and take off!
