Be a Volunteer for Philanthropy in the Classroom!

Philanthropy in the Classroom is a program designed to familiarize 2nd and 3rd grade students with the concept of philanthropy.  Volunteers from the Atlanta Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Kiwanis Club of Atlanta will visit Atlanta area schools this fall to lead program activities, which take about an hour.  The volunteers will:

  • Read a children’s book about philanthropy to a class
  • Discuss the meaning of philanthropy with students
  • Provide support to students as they create drawings that express what philanthropy means to them

It’s lots of fun! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Kitty Vogt (kvogt@gra.org) to sign up. (After you have signed up, you will be contacted by the organizers and asked to select a specific date and location that works for you.  Several options will be available in late September and early October.)  A volunteer training session will be held immediately following the Kiwanis luncheon on September 12 and will last just one hour.

Please note that background checks are required for all volunteers.

40th Annual AMIS Reception is Sep 16!

You are invited to the 40th Annual AMIS/Kiwanis Welcome Reception, Saturday, September 16 from 2-4:00pm, in Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom located at 350 Ferst Drive NW, Atlanta 30332. Kiwanis Club members are needed to be ambassadors and greet our new international students and scholars. Music will be provided by the KSU Jazz Trio and Carrabba's of Kennesaw will cater the reception. Bring friends to welcome our new visitors.

To volunteer to be an ambassador, please contact Angela Cassidy, acassidy@benfranklinacademy.org or Charlotte Margolin, Charlotte@peachtreehillsplace.com.

Kiwanis Kids Cultural Challenge
Event:  Kiwanis Kids Cultural Challenge

Date:  Saturday, October 7, 2017

Time: 8:30 am to 1:30 pm

Location:  Warren Club of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, 790 Berne St, Atlanta (near Grant Park)

Need:  25+ Club Members to serve as Judges

Contact:  Michael Butkus,  mbutkus@mindspring.com, 404-713-7788

For over 40 years, the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta has been associated with the BGCMA in an annual fall event.  The 25 clubs each choose a country to study for 12 months. They come to a single location each fall for the Kiwanis Kids Cultural Challenge to demonstrate what they have learned.  They create banners and posters, prepare food and costumes, perform song and dance routines, all based on the traditions and customs of their chosen country.  They have studied the history, traditions, form of government, geography, climate and so much more about the country.  The Kiwanis Club of Atlanta serves as the corp of judges for this event, awarding prize banners for multiple categories.

RSVP to Michael Butkus, mbutkus@mindspring.comYou must have your completed Background Screening on file before the event!

The security company contracted by Lanier Parking will be booting all cars that are parked in the reserved parking places and that do not have a valid decal on their car identifying them as attending the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta luncheon.  So if you arrive prior to 11:45 am on Tuesday, please make sure you have a parking decal on your car.  You can get a decal from Karen at the luncheon meeting, and then place it on the right back window (passenger side) from inside your car.  They are static cling, so easy to put on and take off!
